As we approach October, we find ourselves reflecting on significant events that have captured our attention in 2024. This year, we witnessed the “Great American Eclipse” on April 8th. This total solar eclipse coincided with the first day of the Hebrew calendar.  

Now, we look ahead with anticipation to October 2nd, when a stunning annular solar eclipse, known as the “ring of fire,” will occur. This rare phenomenon will be visible across various parts of the world, including Easter Island. Unfortunately, it will not be visible in the continental United States.

This celestial event is noteworthy not just for its beauty but also for its timing. October 2nd is also when the festival of Rosh Hashanah will begin in Israel, marking the Jewish New Year. 

On October 7th, 2023, the world was deeply affected by a harrowing attack on Israel by Hamas, which caused significant loss and ongoing suffering. As we reach the one-year anniversary of this tragic event, it is essential for us to express our solidarity with all those in Israel who have been impacted by this great devastation.
