The Baton Rouge floods have devastated people’s homes and many churches. Nine megachurches and many other smaller churches have standing water.
Listen to Pastor Larry Stockstill share the stories of the Baton Rogue flood and how the churches are being affected.
Jesus told us to “do unto others as you would have others do unto you.” If any of us experienced this type of devastation we would appreciate others coming alongside us. Together we can do a lot more than we can separately. I ask you to give generously, either directly through Bethany.com or through christianlifemissions.com.
Last weekend, a tropical depression sat over Baton Rouge, Louisiana, dumping more than 31 inches of rain in 15 hours, according to some reports, in a flat area already prone to flooding.
The result is some of the worst flooding in U.S. history, and certainly the worst flooding in Baton Rouge. It left up to four feet of water in people’s homes and in many churches. Nine megachurches and many other smaller churches have standing water. Not one church in Baton Rouge held services last Sunday.
Larry Stockstill, who pastored Bethany Church for 28 years before handing the reins over to his son, Jonathan, in 2011, says, “this is unbelievable devastation to the body of Christ.” Already, churches are responding. The Church of the Highlands in Birmingham, Alabama, sent 100 volunteers to help with both immediate needs for repairs and longer-term rehabilitation.
Stockstill is reaching out to let the need be known, and I interviewed him on a podcast where you can hear him describe how more than 40,000 homes have been destroyed. He told me, “I’ve never seen anything like it.” You can hear the podcast below.
This is an opportunity for the body of Christ all over America to respond. The Bible tells us to do unto others as we would have them do unto us.
There are two ways to respond. The first is directly to Stockstill’s ministry at Bethany.com. There is a place to give and also to volunteer.
The other way is to give through christianlifemissions.com. This is where we have raised millions of dollars over the years from readers like you. We will quickly send 100 percent of the money that comes in to Stockstill’s church. I am giving personally, as well as my organization, and I encourage you to give something and, if you can, to volunteer.
I’ve known Larry Stockstill for years. He and his ministry carry the utmost integrity. The ministry is taking half of what comes in to rebuild its own north campus, which is a 6,000-seat auditorium under four feet of water. It is giving the other half to other churches and also to a list of widows who basically have no one to take care of them.
Normally in this situation, the government steps in and insurance covers some of the damage. But there are areas in Baton Rouge that are not in the flood plane and many churches do not have flood insurance, as Larry explained to me in the podcast, because they didn’t feel it was necessary.
Jesus told us to “do unto others as you would have others do unto you.” If any of us experienced this type of devastation we would appreciate others coming alongside us. Together we can do a lot more than we can separately. I ask you to give generously, either directly through Bethany.com or through christianlifemissions.com.

Until the 1960’s the Motilone Indians (known as a violent stone-age tribe) had little contact with the outside world. They believed in the existence of a single God, and that evil spirits existed in the world. But they believed that God had rejected them for deceiving Him. A man named Sacamaydodji had come to them claiming to be a prophet, saying that he could take them over the horizon to a better land. They left God and followed him, but eventually came to believe that Sacamaydodji had been a false prophet, and regretted walking away from God. Still, they had a prophecy that a tall man with yellow hair would come with a bananan stalk, and that God would come out of the banana stalk.
With much difficulty and after being shot with Motilone arrows, Olson began to live with the Motilone in 1962, learning their language and culture. For one thing, he discovered that the name “Motilone” was a Spanish name for the tribe, meaning “people of short hair.”The Motilone call themselves “Bari,” which means “people” in their tongue. As he grew more familiar with the tribe, Olson got the nickname Bruchko given to him by the Motilone . He began to see ways he could help them.
The Bari were subject to the ravages of diseases, to shortages in food supply during the rainy season, and to contacts with the outside world that threatened to destroy the Bari and their way of life.
Working Within Authority
Olson began his work by befriending the tribe’s medicine woman. Olson realized that for him to bring cures to the people would undermine the traditional authority structure in their culture. During an epidemic of pink eye, he watched the medicine woman chanting over the afflicted, asking God to heal them. Olson asked her about the cure, and she sighed saying that she chanted, but God would not help them, since they had deceived God.
Olson went out of the house, and asked an old man afflicted with pink eye if he could touch the corners of his eyes. The Old man agreed, and Olson smeared some of the old man’s infected tears in to his own eyes. Olson quickly developed pink eye himself and went to the medicine woman for help. She chanted over him , but the pink eye was not cured. Olson gave her some antibiotic ointment, and asked her to apply the ointment to his eyes while she chanted a new chant- perhaps because he was an outsider the old chant didn’t work on him.
Within a few days the pink eye had cleared up. The medicine woman tried the new chant on others of the afflicted with no results. Then, she asked Olson for his “potion,” and sure enough, when she applied the antibiotic and the chant, the pink eye was eradicated. Her success elevated her status in the eyes of the tribe, and cemented Olson’s bond with her.
The Bible is God’s Banana Stalk!- A Prophecy Fulfilled
Within the tribe, Olson formed a pact with a young man named Bobarishora, becoming adoptive brothers together. The two worked together, visiting many Bari villages, and helping the medicine men & women establish health centers, following the same strategy of introducing change through the village’s existing authority structure rather than undermining it.
Initially, some of the Bari had wondered if Olson might be the tall man with yellow hair from the prophecy, but as he did not carry a banana stalk, they soon abandoned that belief. One day in 1956, Olson’s pact-brother Bobarishora cut open a banana stalk, and the leaves inside splayed out like the pages of a book. Olson pointed to his Bible and said, “This is God’s banana stalk!
2016 is just around the corner, and as Christian Life Missions takes a look at 2015, we are so thankful for another year of raising funds to change lives. No matter the need, whether it’s the homeless, abused, sick,or hungry… our donors like you change lives worldwide every time.
Let’s Change Our Nation One Bible at a Time
In 2016 we’re working to give hope in the form of a Bible, & some needed extras, to our own communities in America. We know there is really only one hope, and He is The Word (John 1:1), that changed our lives. Believe it or not, many Americans do not have the Word to read. Millions of people do not have a Bible to call their own.
We’re inviting you to join with us to Give Away the Word, and give the hope of the world to our nation! I can’t think of a better way to bring in the new year than to honor His gift to us, as we give a Bible to others.
Our Goal: Give Away 1 Million Bibles
A gift of only $1.00 will provide for the purchase of a Bible, and ensure delivery into the hands of a person who has the opportunity to receive Jesus at a Convoy of Hope Outreach held near you. Someone in need may come for the free groceries, clothing, local employment connections, or prayer, but now you can send them home with a Bible too!
Of all the gifts you gave or received this year remember, a Bible is the only gift that can open the door to eternal life.
In honor of Christian Life Missions new Give Away the Word Campaign (where you can give away a Bible for the cost of a cup of coffee), I wanted to share this inspiring video showing what it was like for this group of Chinese Christians to receive their first Bibles!
In 2003, Hope for Haiti Worship Center (Temple de Espoir Haïti) opened it’s doors to the town of Ouanaminthe, Haiti. The ministry is founded upon a healthy spiritual life, and an active walk and belief in Jesus Christ. The ministry wanted to extend the reach of her mission and vision into the surrounding community, providing them the opportunity to grow in a relationship with Christ and receive discipleship and encouragement from a community of strong believers.
Today, hundreds of people from Ouanaminthe and neighboring villages, attend weekly services at the Hope for Haiti Worship Center where they receive the message of love, hope, spiritual growth, and healing. The worship center is a non-denominational church led by Haitian pastors, accompanied by a pastoral staff.
In addition to the church, Danita’s Children evangelizes the community with weekly outreach through Safari Sunday School presentations.
Each week, the bright yellow Safari truck, drives to remote areas of Northeast Haiti to share the message of love and hope of Jesus Christ to hundreds of children. Led by missionary staff, the children participate in music, drama and creative lessons to learn all about what it means to have a relationship with the Lord.
Safari Sunday School is giving children in the most rural of villages in Haiti the opportunity to learn what it means to have a relationship with Christ. Because of faithful giving and donations, Danita’s Children is able to make a lasting and positive impact on the lives of hundreds of people through the Hope for Haiti Worship Center and Safari Sunday School.
“And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you,
as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.”
Leket Israel, Israel’s largest foodbank, practices many Biblical principles. One of my favorites tackles the, why, behind your giving. The Hebrew word for this principle is Tzedakah. Most Christians have never heard the word, however the Jewish community is very familiar with it’s meaning. At the same time they are very divided as to it’s meaning.
Ask a room full of Jews what the meaning of Tzedakah is and you’ll get one of two answers. Half will say JUSTICE and half will say CHARITY. Allow me to explain.
If I gave you $1000 maybe it’s because you loaned me $1000 and now I’m paying it back for the debt to be paid, which is JUSTICE. But, what if I don’t owe you, but I recognize that you have a need and I give you assistance no strings attached. That’s CHARITY.
As Christians we need to understand that those who have are supposed to share with those who have not. Why?
Because what we own is not our own, it belongs to God. We are stewards of his creation. Psalm 24:1 reads, ” The earth is the Lord’s and all it’s fullness, The world and those who dwell therein.”
Tzedakah, God’s principle of JUSTICE & CHARITY, is really God’s heart to those who are in need. We should be living this out in our lives through our giving.
The Prophet Isaiah paints a powerful picture of Israel’s participation in an annual fast, and God’s rebuke in the fact that people were neglecting the poor.
Isaiah 58: 7 reads, “Is it (the annual fast) not to share your bread with the hungry, And that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out; When you see the naked, you cover him…
The Principle of Tzedakah (JUSTICE & CHARITY) teaches us to make a commitment to help those in need, and to regard the needy as equal human beings.

This 5 minute video, shows the lives you’re saving when you give to CHARISMA Cares Bless Israel as we support Magen David Adom (MDA- Israel’s National Aid Society).
I love the dedication of Shira Applebaum, an MDA paramedic and leader of their national disaster response team. She is also a symbol of the hope and inspiration that MDA’s lifesaving work provides, even in the face of tragedy.
Shira’s father and sister were killed by a suicide bomber the night before her sister’s wedding.
When Shira arrived at the scene not knowing how to help, she decided to dedicate the rest of her life to saving lives. Now a nurse in a private clinic and an MDA paramedic, Shira honors the memory of her father and sister each day with her heroic work.
More than ever, right is now is a very important time to be thinking of Israel in your prayers and your giving.
Thank you for blessing Israel & saving lives with Christian Life Missions!
Planned Parenthood (PP) has certainly been in the news as of late. The videos by the Center for Medical Progress have exposed an extremely sadistic side of PP that most people outside of the Pro-Life Movement never knew about.
Now there are cries from so many people, even presidential candidates like Ted Cruz, to de-fund PP. One presidential candidate said PP isn’t all bad, but he is against abortion. On some level, at least 17 presidential candidates are decrying the PP abortion/harvesting agenda.
As an evangelist and a civil rights voice, a Black post-abortive mother born into a pro-life family, I’m sounding the alarm.
What many people don’t understand is that if you are willfully killing pre-born babies and even born alive babies, and are actively working to expand that aspect of your business then you’re willing to do anything, even breaking the law, to make more money. That’s the legacy of PP founder Margaret Sanger. Thanks to her, PP is America’s largest abortion provider and apparently a major harvester of human body products.
Abortion is an intrinsic evil; It only stands to reason that any organization involved in abortions would also be involved in other evil acts.
Although many of the programs PP administers sound good on the surface, like the harvesting of baby body parts for “research,” they must be looked at under the microscope of their overall anti-procreative philosophy.
As American Life League noted on their STOPP website:
The Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) has, since 1970, pushed for sex education in public schools. In 1986, its president, Faye Wattleton, stated that PPFA had established a goal of getting kindergarten through twelfth grade sex education mandated in every school district in the nation. Planned Parenthood sees sex education as a way of indoctrinating our children with PP’s philosophies-philosophies that include the acceptance of abortion and deviant sexual practices, philosophies that are in direct opposition to the teachings of most churches in this country.
As it stands now, PP receives over half a billion, that’s right, half a billion, of tax-payer dollars through Title X Family Planning grants. This is the figure that gets thrown out when most people discuss defunding PP. Yet it is a very subtle as yet attack on natural human sexuality, procreation, marriage and family.
Consequently, what most people don’t talk about and what too many are unaware of are the additional millions of dollars, such as over $5 million according to Life Dynamics, they receive in grant monies for their educational programs, like teen pregnancy prevention, sex education, abstinence, and other such programs. They sound like good programs until, as I stated earlier, you look at them in context to their philosophy –“a way of indoctrinating our children with PP’s philosophies-philosophies that include the acceptance of abortion and deviant sexual practices.”
Another report states that the Office of Adolescent Health (OAH), which is under the Department of Health and Human Services, just gave PP of the Great Northwest and the Hawaiian Islands $18.75 million in federal grant funding.
And it doesn’t stop there. PP gets federal and state funding, as well as hefty funding from the private sector to advance their anti-birth anti-family agenda. Their “three headed monster approach” is deadly.
If you don’t believe the truth about PP’s philosophy, take a look at this video report from 2012 entitled, “Hooking Kids on Sex II”. It shows how PP uses a similar method employed by drug dealers to get kids hooked on sex which will ultimately lead to unintended pregnancies because a certain percent of contraceptives fail which means more abortion business for them. The popular Pro-life “Blood Money” video confirms this practice.
Using the frog in the hot water analogy, PP has managed to bring the water to a boil to our peril. If you put a frog into a pot of boiling water it will jump right out but put it in a pot of cold water and he or she is content to swim around, testing the water. Then as you turn up the heat slowly, but eventually the frog boils to death not being any the wiser. Well, that’s what PP is doing.
The selling of baby parts for profit is not the only thing PP does that should make you cringe. There is a lot more going on beneath the surface of this evil organization. We’re at the boiling point now but the warming of the water has been going on for years and many didn’t even pay attention. Goodness, there are still so many not paying attention. I hope people wake up before the fabric of our marriages and families erodes into oblivion and society as a whole boils to death.
Although there is so much more we could say about the evils of PP let’s pause with this one note. Just like a little arsenic in a glass of hot chocolate, millions of abortions makes PP a business that the federal government does not need to be funding with our tax dollars.
LET’S PRAY FOR AMERICA AND DEFUND PLANNED PARENTHOOD, NOW!
